Orders are being taken for Powells # 1 grafted trees now.
Until this supply happens development of quality Quandong products will take time to occur and restaurateurs and food product manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers will not be able to rely on marketing these products. Certainly no export trade can be planned or even contemplated without an assured supply of product. The Directors of Quorn Quandongs Pty. Ltd. are excited to announce that Quorn Quandongs has recently secured the total ownership of the famous Powells # 1 cultivar. This company already has an exclusive contract with Australian Quandongs P/L to develop, propagate and market the stunning new cultivar known as Powells Red Supreme (PRS). Powells # 1 is the result of a three-generation planned breeding and selection process over a 20 year period and Powells Red Supreme is a further 4th generation Powell gene family member. (Descriptions of these trees and some production figures are available) Both cultivars have PBR status pending and are consequently protected from any body purporting to be able to sell any propagation material from these trees or use their names or any derivatives of their names (such as Powell 1) to sell propagation material. As part of the arrangement to purchase Powells # 1, Quorn Quandongs also secured the exclusive rights to use any microgenesis (tissue culture) process developed by Peter Taverna a noted South Australian nurseryman, for the propagation of the Quandong and the exclusive rights to license any such process (when and if developed) to other Quandong tree owners. These developments clearly mean a great deal to the burgeoning Quandong industry. The issue which has, until recently, prevented the propagation of Powells Red Supreme in commercial numbers (that is the fact there has been only one tree from which to gather scion material) is not an issue with Powells # 1. There are hundreds of trees, now beginning to reach maturity from earlier graftings, from which significant amounts of scion material can be gathered for a mass commercial propagation programme. This means Powell #1 grafted trees will be available for planting in April / May 2003 to selected clients. Orders are being taken for Powells # 1 grafted trees now. (Interested growers should contact Quorn Quandongs to discuss the terms and conditions of purchase. Quorn Quandongs reserves the right to nominate which orders it fills.) Quorn Quandongs over the past three years has been developing mass propagation techniques and has recently achieved exciting grafting successes. Since the purchase in May 1999 of Powells Red Supreme, most of its first grafted trees (just 3 years old) have heavy crops and already a number of these trees are 2.5m tall. It is expected Quorn Quandongs will be able to gather sufficient scion material by September 2003 for its own use to complete a 4,000 tree orchard of grafted Powells Red Supremes by April 2004. After that it will also release grafted Powells Red Supreme trees into the market. Quorn Quandongs plans to take orders for Powells Red Supreme in 2003 for delivery in 2004.
Quorn Quandongs Secures Saltbush Lane Rights Quorn Quandongs anounced today that it has secured the rights to develop the new PBR Protected (Status Pending) cultivar known as Saltbush Lane. This 5th generation Powell gene family member has recently been purchased by Australian Quandongs P/L from Brian Powell for a figure in excess of $20,000. The features and production figures of the cultivar will be described in detail in the future, but suffice to say that it is another exceptional tree which Brian Powell and the directors of Australian Quondongs P/L consider worthy of PBR protection. Release of grafted Saltbush Lane tree for public sale is planned for 2004. |
